sound beacon for the blind

THOUGHT: I like really early foggy mornings. Fog seems to dull sound in a similar manner to snow, and I find that waking up to a quiet world is soothing....but... fog also holds deep fear in it, an ominous danger-vibe that is likely genetically embedded in us after generations of travelers hoping their ships don't perish from an unexpected rocky outcrop crushing the hull. Unable to clearly see a path forward is not a position we like to find ourselves in.

Even though I live inland, I can almost hear the sound of a fog horn cutting through the dullness on the coastlines of New England. According to a 2016 article in Down East Magazine, when Maine stopped using the traditional fog horn sound booming from it's lighthouses, it left a few Mainers feeling a bit nostalgic, and maybe feeling a bit of loss for this sound that is so familiar to so many of us...a sound that likely saved our ancestors lives, a sound that we feel deep in our souls. Much of what is going on in our country right now has left a lot of us feeling like we are in a sort of fog, with so much noise that it almost cancels itself out into a low drone. I for one, have been searching and waiting to hear the distinct sound of that fog horn that cuts through the thick soup, a sound beacon for the blind.

PRAYER: May the right sound guide you safely to your next destination.
